Local veterans flew on Sept. 25 from Johnson County Executive Airport in a restored WWII-era biplane provided by nonprofit Dream Flights — eight retirees at Dial Senior Living, including 93-year-old Jack Light and 91-year-old Rene Jennings, took the opportunity to relive their flying days in an open-cockpit aircraft originally designed by Kansas native Lloyd Stearman.
Rachel Marlow, a music teacher at Central Elementary, was named the 2026 Kansas Teacher of the Year and received a $4,000 award—she will travel statewide to share her teaching methods and speak to education leaders.
