Maletas: An Immigrant Story

About this event

Maletas (Spanish: luggage) is a multimedia show for four musicians, a poet and a visual designer. Standing at center stage, a tattered piece of luggage tells the story of an immigrant going through different stages of their identity as they move through life. The show focuses on the loss created by immigration patterns and displacement: while we usually hear conversations on how to integrate people coming from somewhere else, we seldom think about the void their created in their home by their absence. While learning new customs, old ones are forgotten, all in the name of a better life away from home.

Written by Alberto Racanati and starring local poet and activist Jose Faus, Maletas will premiere at Greenwood Social Hall on November 14th.
