About this event
Whether you are newer to writing choreographies, a seasoned soloist, or a die-hard improv dancer, the more you understand and familiarize with your music, the better your performances will be. Taking a step back from your song and looking at it as a whole, instead of 8 counts at a time, can help you create a framework that ensures you get to highlight all your best attributes in a dynamic and well-planned piece.
In this class, we will look at three different songs that fit different "styles" of music commonly used for belly dance as an example of how to map various kinds of songs. As a bonus, you have the option of mapping your own song after the class and sending your song map for feedback so you get independent practice. ***This is highly recommended for dancers who want to participate in Rahil's Choreography Creation Mentoring in 2027, as you'll need to have a map of your song prior to our first meeting.***
These classes are very Zoom-friendly depending on your set-up (you just need to be able to hear the music clearly). We will not be dancing during the class, but you will want a pen and notebook.
Cost is $20 for the class or $30 for the class and feedback on your song map.
