About this event

The 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Francis Halzen of Belgium, who (in 1992) proposed a `neutrino telescope' at the South Pole, based on established technologies.

Francis was also instrumental in facilitating the inception of the KU-based RICE experiment, employing a previously-untested technology.

KU Professor Dave Besson will discuss the development of 'neutrino telescopes' in the polar icecaps over the last three decades, based on 15 visits to the South Pole and five to Summit Station, Greenland and future prospects.
