The Olathe Board of Education voted Thursday to open 2,970 spots for open enrollment transfers—five times the amount available last year.
Open enrollment lets any Kansas student apply to any public school.
Olathe Public Schools are using funds from a 2022 bond measure to work on media center renovations, auditorium upgrades and an innovation campus.
The bond passed in March 2022 — with about 67 percent support — and provides $298.3 million with no tax increase to meet growing needs.
The Olathe Board of Education will hold its final town hall-style meeting of the school year on April 24 at 5 p.m. in the school board meeting room (RSVPs are open until April 18).
Governor Kelly said Kansas was named Innovation Champion on the CTA 2025 Scorecard after 54 indicators rated all 50 states.
The award makes Kansas one of 12 states to earn the title—showing its commitment to tech innovation and a high quality of life.
Douglas and Johnson Counties are set to receive part of an $8.1M grant through the Kansas Department of Transportation’s High Risk Rural Roads Program—11 projects will use the funds to repair rural roads by adding shoulders, signage and rumble strips to improve safety.
