  • Maura Heft became the first homeowner at Pathway at Heritage Park, Johnson County’s first Habitat for Humanity neighborhood, on Wednesday. She had been living in transitional housing and now resides with her six-year-old daughter in one of the subdivision’s 14 planned homes, with three already built.  Olathe Reporter

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hen House, a grocery chain from Kansas City, is proposing a new supermarket at the entrance of Cedar Creek in Olathe. The plan received a planning commission recommendation on Jan. 12 and is led by developer David Ball of Four B Foods/Balls Food Stores.  Olathe Reporter

CULTURE NEWS

  • This week, a popular Shawnee cocktail bar (known for its speakeasy style) reached the James Beard semifinalist list for Best Bar and chef Swetha Newcomb from an upscale Overland Park restaurant became a semifinalist for Best Chef. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Enrollment for SMSD's Summer Enrichment program opens Feb. 4 online for grades K-7. The program offers weekly classes from June 8-July 17 at Westridge Middle School (no classes on June 19 or during the week of June 29-July 4) in topics like nature, woodworking, sports, musicals, and cooking.  Johnson County Post

  • Homeowners are urged to check their policy declarations as Flury-Hinderks Insurance emphasizes verifying replacement cost coverage—this measure can prevent costly out-of-pocket expenses if severe weather damages roofs.  Johnson County Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Johnson County approved a new circulator bus service that will connect Leawood, Lenexa, Merriam, Mission, Olathe, Overland Park and Shawnee for World Cup matches this summer (routes include 14 stops at places like downtown Overland Park and Scheels Soccer Complex).
