COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Great Plains SPCA is offering Puppygrams through Feb. 15 to deliver snuggly puppies for work events, date nights or meetings in Kansas City. The fundraiser costs $250 for 30 minutes, and groups are encouraged to split costs as puppies are available for adoption during the month & reservations are limited. KMBC
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Work is expected to begin this week on Austin's Bar and Grill on Cherry Street near Johnson County Square in Downtown Olathe. The restaurant will start interior demolition soon + about 15 parking spots will be closed as it plans to open by early-Sept. Olathe Reporter
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Six Johnson County school districts say the state is paying about half the extra cost for special education, leaving a $133 million gap covered by general funds. Lawmakers will review the 2027 K-12 budget to better support students who need special education & reallocate unused funds. Johnson County Post
- ➤ Registration is now open at JCCC for its Summer Youth Enrichment Programs offering courses and camps for children entering grades 1-12, running from June 1 through July 31. Families can register and choose half-day morning or afternoon sessions with supervised lunches & late pick-ups to fit their schedules. Johnson County Post
- ➤ Johnson County school districts confirmed that vaccine enrollment requirements remain unchanged even after the CDC lowered its recommended schedule. Representatives from Olathe, Shawnee Mission, and Blue Valley said state guidelines will continue to be used for student health protocols. KSHB
