BUSINESS NEWS

  • Brown Suga, an Olathe-based cookie business, opened its second storefront in Leawood at Park Place shopping center (11529 Ash St.) in February. The shop is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and offers a variety of cookies, brownies, ice cream, and lemonade to fans and newcomers.  Johnson County Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A De Soto mother was relieved after her daughter, stranded in the Middle East and running low on medication, was brought home safely—Rep. Sharice Davids’ office worked with the State Department to secure an emergency flight that returned them Friday morning.  KSHB

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Johnson County home values increased by an average 6% for 2026, with single-family residences rising nearly 6% while apartments surged 11%, according to the county appraiser (Carolyn Logan) whose report was released Feb. 26. Notices were mailed on Feb. 25 and homeowners can appeal until March 27.  Johnson County Post

SPORTS NEWS

  • Chiefs President Mark Donovan discussed plans for a new team facility in Olathe near Kansas Highway 10 and Ridgeview Road at the Chamber meeting on Friday, March 6. He said the project will involve local schools and city officials (and include flag football) with updates expected soon.  KSHB
  • Kansas legislators began reviewing HB 2793 on Friday to set up the Kansas Sports Facilities Authority, which will manage plans for the Chiefs' $3 billion stadium project and related developments in Village West and Olathe with a nine-member board including state leaders & Chiefs representatives.  KSHB
  • County staff detailed World Cup 26 plans including special events, temporary bus routes, language tools for law enforcement & libraries, and a Theatre in the Park watch party for 2,500 fans. The first match featuring Argentina and Algeria will take place on June 16 as the county prepares for international visitors.  Johnson County Post
