BUSINESS NEWS

  • California-based Jack in the Box closed its Olathe restaurant at 17280 W. 119th St after more than a decade of service—signage was completely removed from the building. The chain will remain open in Overland Park and Merriam to serve local customers.  Johnson County Post

CRIME NEWS

  • Jordan Yust, a 37-year-old Olathe man, was last seen on March 3 after leaving his home amid self-harm concerns—his family and local authorities continue searching for him and ask anyone with tips to come forward.  Johnson County Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Johnson County has approved rooftop solar panels and a rainwater system for toilets in a new health services building set to be built this spring in Olathe—these upgrades will add $3.07 million to the project’s cost while promising long-term savings.  Johnson County Post
  • Sen. Ethan Corson is supporting new bills to lower property taxes for seniors and disabled veterans—he plans to raise rebate limits, create a tax task force, and increase the residential exemption. The measures may help 12,000 households and are set to be discussed in the legislative session soon.  Johnson County Post
  • Olathe City Council said this week they support tax abatements and special sales tax approvals for the new Downtown restaurants to kickstart growth. The city sold a building near Johnson County Square — purchased for $1.7 million in 2023 and nearly $800,000 above its appraised value — to developer LANE4 based on these incentives.  Olathe Reporter
