GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Candidates have filed early paperwork for Olathe City Council seats for the Nov 4th General Election; the council, a seven-member board with four-year terms, sets city policy. Three candidates—Leetta Felter, Marge Vogt and Rob Olson—have declared their bids. Olathe Reporter
- ➤ Lawmakers in Kansas have debated the affordable housing credit for two months as they consider a compromise to reduce it by 70%—a measure aimed at supporting low-income housing projects. The House passed a bill to end the full credit by July 1st but a revised plan will go to the Senate committee next—housing advocates say even a smaller credit could help attract affordable housing developers. - ➤ Rep. John Resman said a juvenile justice bill will let courts give tougher sentences and add 35–45 non-foster home beds—changes that aim to help social workers deal with juvenile offenders. The House passed the bill, and it awaits a Senate hearing—promising to fill gaps left by past reforms. Johnson County Post
