CRIME NEWS

  • One man died and a 25-year-old suspect was taken into custody after a Saturday night shooting at a quadruplex on the 1400 block of East Mart-Way Circle—police said the two men knew each other—when officers arrived on a call at 9:54 p.m.  Johnson County Post
  • Olathe police identified 21-year-old Landen Roggenkamp, fatally shot near Washington School Park and Santa Fe Trail Middle School on March 29 at about 9:45 p.m., and arrested a 25-year-old suspect—investigators said they believed the two knew each other.  KCTV 5
  • Armando Javier Guerrero has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Landen Roggenkamp on Sunday night (at East Mart-Way Circle) and will appear in court today (with a $1 million bond requested by prosecutors).  KMBC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Olathe elementary school teacher Patty Mulligan will retire this summer after nearly 40 years in classrooms, including 20 years teaching third grade at Heritage Elementary. She plans to substitute teach, volunteer, and spend more time with her family while still cheering on former students and educators (she was named FOX4’s March Teacher of the Month).  FOX 4 Kansas City

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A developer is revisiting the shelved final phase of the Red Hawk Run neighborhood along Woodland in north-central Olathe to bring four extra single-family homes priced at about $500,000 each and help ease the tight housing market—while nearby residents oppose the changes for not fitting the long-term vision. The city council already approved a modification to the Woodland Corridor Plan, and the Olathe Planning Commission will soon review the final plat.  Johnson County Post

SPORTS NEWS

  • Sporting KC announced Monday that long-time manager Peter Vermes left after 16 years that brought the club a 2013 MLS Cup win and three U.S. Open Cup titles—fans said poor play led to the decision. Interim head coach Kerry Zavagnin will lead the team until a new coach is named.  KSHB
