COMMUNITY NEWS

  • IMLS, a federal agency that awarded $267 million in grants last year to libraries like Johnson County Library, is cutting back operations after an executive order placed about 80% of its employees on administrative leave—raising concerns that programs such as language learning, summer reading, and the Kansas Library eCard may be affected. Local library officials say they will adjust services next year to ensure continued access to materials and information.  KCTV 5

CRIME NEWS

  • Armando Guerrero, a 25-year-old Olathe man, was charged with voluntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Landen Roggenkamp on Saturday evening—he was booked on a $1,000,000 bond.  KCTV 5
  • An Olathe man, 25-year-old Armando Guerrero, was charged with voluntary manslaughter after officers responded to a call near East Mart-Way Circle and North Mart-Way Drive on Saturday, March 29 where they found 21-year-old Landen Roggenkamp injured in a shooting that later claimed his life — Guerrero is held on a $1 million bond and is set to appear in court Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.  FOX 4 Kansas City
  • Luke Anthony Howard, 34, was extradited Friday from a Missouri jail to the Johnson County Adult Detention Center to face two counts of intentional and premeditated first-degree murder after he shot his mother and aunt at their shared home—prosecutors said his aunt had tried to evict him at the time.  Johnson County Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new bill allowing firework sales all year passed the state house and senate on April 1st—but it will not change Olathe’s current laws, the state fire marshal said. The measure replaces the seasonal sales period from June 27 to July 5 and now awaits governor approval or veto.  Olathe Reporter
