- ➤ Early on April 2 at 5:30 a.m., neighbors reported hearing a crack of lightning—then saw flames coming from the roof—as firefighters responded to a house with significant damage and displaced two residents now receiving Red Cross assistance. KCTV 5
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Olathe City Council hired BPS Philanthropic Advisors on Tuesday to study whether its Community Fund should remain or close+ the $12,500 study will guide future council decisions. Olathe Reporter
- ➤ Olathe City Government is resurfacing 181 roads to slow cracks and add a skid-resistant treatment—covering a part of East Kansas City Road, sections of the Southglen neighborhood and streets at the southwest corner of Ridgeview and 159th Street. Olathe Reporter
- ➤ The City of Olathe has added fluoride to its drinking water since 1959 but the City Council is set to review the process based on studies and a late-2024 California District Court ruling that claimed the EPA-approved level might lower children’s IQ by eight points—information highlighted by Food & Water Watch. - ➤ The Olathe City Council has approved plans to acquire more private property for the I-35 and Santa Fe interchange improvements project and set up an eminent domain petition for 12 additional properties.
