  • Local restaurants in Overland Park are still coping with high egg prices caused by an avian flu outbreak that drove costs from about $25 to $125 per case, even though prices have eased slightly—eateries like Flapjacks ‘n more and The Wooden Spoon have adjusted their sourcing and menus to manage rising expenses.  Johnson County Post
  • Chipotle settled a religious discrimination lawsuit with a Muslim employee who said her manager forcibly removed her hijab at a Lenexa restaurant in 2021; the settlement requires a $20,000 payment and extra training on harassment and Title VII for line workers and supervisors (as mandated by the EEOC) (after support from CAIR-Kansas).  Johnson County Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Olathe City Council approved two separate incentives for the County Square Commons project in Downtown Olathe Tuesday — one for industrial revenue bonds and one for a special sales tax district.  Olathe Reporter
  • At a Johnson County Board of Commissioners meeting last Thursday, officials approved a nonbinding letter of intent from the Greater Kansas City Home Ownership Initiative to partner with VanTrust in boosting affordable housing—other stakeholders are invited to join as the group evaluates development options and best practices. This step aims to address community concerns about housing availability.  KSHB

SPORTS NEWS

  • Susan True, a co-founder of WIN for KC who helped expand girls and women’s sports, died on March 29 at the age of 87. A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. (Platte Woods United Methodist Church, 7310 N.W. Prairie View Road in Platte Woods, Missouri) followed by a memorial service on April 14.  KSHB
