- ➤ Cities across Johnson County will begin their 2025 farmers market seasons soon — Overland Park will hold its market at the Matt Ross Community Center starting Saturday, April 19, while Olathe markets will open on Saturday, April 26 at Black Bob Park and downtown. Other cities including Merriam, Lenexa, Shawnee, Mission, Gardner, De Soto and Spring Hill have set dates and times for their markets in the coming weeks. Johnson County Post
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Roeland Park resident Evenezer Cortez Martinez, a 39-year-old DACA recipient, was deported on March 23 at DFW International Airport after he traveled to honor his late grandfather’s grave in Mexico. His Kansas City attorney filed a lawsuit against Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection — arguing that his advance parole rights and due process were violated. Johnson County Post
- ➤ Lawmakers in the Kansas Legislature approved a constitutional amendment that clarifies only U.S. citizens who meet age and residency rules qualify to vote—voters will decide on the measure at the General Election on Nov. 3, 2026. The change passed with strong support in both chambers and could be voted on sooner if a special election is called. FOX 4 Kansas City
- ➤ Starting Friday, April 11 at 5 p.m., a contractor for Johnson County Wastewater will close a portion of the southbound lanes of State Line Rd. under I-435 for the State Line Pump Stations and Forcemain project — the lanes will reopen late afternoon on Monday, April 14 weather permitting. Construction near I-435 and State Line Rd. will continue throughout April with no additional lane closures expected. Johnson County
