CRIME NEWS

  • An Olathe man — Denton Loudermill Jr. — who was wrongly accused at the Chiefs Super Bowl rally in 2024 as a shooter and illegal alien was found dead Friday morning by his family with no cause of death released as he faced false social media claims and legal disputes.  FOX 4 Kansas City

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bennett Dametz (12) plays Billy Elliot in a local production by Music Theatre Kansas City at B&B Theatres in Shawnee, which opened Friday night and will run through April 20. He said the role is a dream come true and helps him grow as an actor (the production aims to bring Broadway-level shows to our community).  KMBC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dennis Patton worked for 35 years at the Johnson County K-State Extension Office and was well known by local gardeners; he will be honored by renaming its demonstration garden the Dennis Patton Garden Gallery — a new sign will mark the tribute. The dedication ceremony will be held on May 21 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Sunset Drive Office building at 11811 S. Sunset Dr. in Olathe.  Johnson County Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting May 7 the federal government will enforce Real IDs for domestic travel and access to federal facilities, and Missouri's Department of Revenue said there is no plan to extend the deadline—Kansas residents planning to fly should allow about two weeks for processing.  KSHB
  • KDOT held a final public meeting on Thursday at the K-State Innovation Campus in Olathe to gather input on its diamond interchange plan at K-10 and Lone Elm Road amid opposition from nearby residents—officials said the interchange would ease traffic impacts and lower costs. Public comments will be accepted through Friday, April 18, and after submitting a final environmental assessment to the Federal Highway Administration, design work on the corridor improvement project will follow—local leaders continue to share their concerns about safety and neighborhood impact.  Johnson County Post
