- ➤ MidAmerica Nazarene University will host a free public event on April 23 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Merriam Plaza Library, Webb Family Meeting Room to explore the role of the Madam C.J. Walker School in desegregating education. The event will feature a panel discussion, oral history clips and exhibits funded by Humanities Kansas — linking local history with national civil rights advances. Johnson County Post

- ➤ The Olathe City Council approved spending $191,000 on a study to review employee space needs and plan for staffing changes over the next 10 years. Peckham, Guyton, Albers and Viet, Inc. will conduct the study, which is expected to take about six months and help guide long-term facility improvements. Johnson County Post
- ➤ The Overland Park Police now send text message surveys after 911 calls to rate officer and dispatcher interactions—this system of four quick questions already exceeded its 30% goal by receiving a 46% response rate. Captain Richard Breshears said the feedback is used to improve policies and that future updates will include features such as notifying callers about delays. KSHB
- ➤ On Tuesday morning, Governor Laura Kelly said she sent a letter to Education Secretary Linda McMahon asking for $22.6 million to be reallocated to Kansas schools after federal pandemic relief funds were abruptly reduced. Kelly said the funds — which helped pay for background checks and licensing fees for early childhood educators — supported rising test scores and graduation rates. FOX 4 Kansas City
- ➤ Johnson County Transit will pause new RideKC Freedom paratransit applications starting May 1 as it reviews its program to improve service—applications submitted by 11:59 p.m. on April 30 will be processed in order and current customers will keep their rides.
