- ➤ Several Johnson County cities are offering bulk item pickups for spring cleaning—Merriam will pick up items from April 21 to 25, Prairie Village starts Saturday, April 26, and today Overland Park will host a construction debris drop-off from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.—residents must place eligible items curbside by 7 a.m. on their scheduled day. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Kansas authorities arrested 66-year-old Gary Hermesch (from Tulsa) after he told deputies he shot Father Arul Carasala at his church rectory on April 3; officers said Carasala later died at a hospital after suffering a head wound and a firearm was recovered from Hermesch's vehicle. KSNT
- ➤ A 23-year-old woman was taken to an area hospital after she was shot by a 19-year-old man at the 1000 block of North Ridgeview Road around 10:42 p.m. on Thursday night—police later took the suspect into custody and said there is no threat to the public. KMBC

- ➤ After a snowy winter that brought 20 inches of snow, city staff said Olathe's street repair team fixed 1,856 potholes so far this year — the repair count is lower than in previous winters but the team is now caught up on requests. Olathe Reporter
