Johnson County Library announced that 13 teen and young adult volunteers have earned the Presidential Service Award by meeting the required 50 service hours for teens and 100 for young adults—together they contributed 1,089 hours during National Volunteer Appreciation Week.

This recognition underscores the Library's commitment to community service.

Late Saturday night at 11:21 p.m. on Metcalf Avenue just north of Johnson Drive, a head-on crash between a 2013 Toyota and a 2015 Kia killed two Johnson County teens—17-year-old driver Jose Placensia Castañeda died later at the hospital while 18-year-old passenger Itzel Guerra died at the scene—and injured two women in the Kia.

Sporting KC is showing progress under interim head coach Kerry Zavagnin after scoring nine goals in three games, including a five-goal win in San Jose—the team's highest on the road since 2018.

The team will play next Saturday at FC Cincinnati—while working to boost its defense.
