- ➤ Adeline Clifford, a Shawnee Mission East junior, launched a countywide food drive to help local pantries after USDA cuts reduced food deliveries to Harvesters. She partnered with Boots on the Ground Midwest to set up donation drop-offs — including one in Olathe — with several sites scheduled to accept contributions. FOX 4 Kansas City
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Johnson County Post held a town hall on April 15 to discuss new school rules limiting smartphone use in classrooms, as educators, parents and students along with a mental health representative shared their views. Panelists explained that while the rules helped reduce distractions—some parents wanted a full-day ban, and the Post plans to host more such forums in the future. Johnson County Post
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Johnson County is reviewing its bus routes today and may update paratransit services to meet federal rules that require curb-to-curb rides within three-quarters of a mile of fixed routes—this change may limit trips for riders outside these zones, and new paratransit applications are paused starting May 1 while the transit plan is reworked. Commissioners will meet again on May 1 to discuss further changes. Johnson County Post

- ➤ Freddy Fermin hit a winning single in the 11th inning as the Royals overcame a two-run deficit in the ninth to beat the Rockies 4-3 on Tuesday night—dropping the Rockies to 4-18. The Royals will take the mound again Wednesday at 6:40 p.m. with Michael Lorenzen set to start. FOX 4 Kansas City
