  • Shawnee Mission East junior Adeline Clifford set up nine donation boxes to support food banks hurt by federal cuts and is working with Boots on the Ground Midwest; one drop-off is at Junque Drawer (233 S. Cherry in Olathe) while other sites (in nearby communities) offer additional ways to help.  KCTV 5

CRIME NEWS

  • An Edgerton man pleaded guilty to first degree murder for killing paramedic Cade Blackburn on March 30th and now faces a life sentence with no parole until after serving at least 25 years—Judge Erica K. Schoenig handled the joint plea agreement in Johnson County District Court.  Johnson County Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Olathe's government held a groundbreaking ceremony Friday before beginning construction on Fire Station No.9—located near Pioneer Park on College Boulevard by Woodland Street. The station will serve local fire protection needs once completed.  Olathe Reporter
  • The Kansas Legislative Research Department estimates the state will run a $930 million deficit in FY 2025 and continue facing losses through FY 2029—foreseeing a projected wipeout of the beginning balance by FY 2029. Governor Kelly and Senate President Masterson offered differing views on state spending and revenue—each calling for changes to secure a positive ending balance in future budgets.  KSNT

  • Nine-year-old Dennis Day and his father Travis both have autism—an element of their bond highlighted in a TikTok video that has reached over one million views—as they face challenges at home and in school.
