  • Safe Kids Johnson County, in partnership with State Farm and McCarthy Chevrolet, will host a free Buckle Up event on May 3 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at McCarthy Chevrolet (inside the service department) where certified technicians will inspect child car seats to help families ensure proper installation.  Johnson County

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Olathe AMC dine-in theater on Strang Line Road unveiled its new XL auditorium with a 40-foot screen and 4K laser projection—the first of its kind in the country. The new format is now available at both the Olathe and Overland Park theaters.  Olathe Reporter
  • Fifth and Emery, a locally-owned frozen yogurt shop (formerly Yogurtini), plans to open a new Lenexa location this summer at 12970 W. 87th St. Owner Isaac Collins, a Lenexa resident, said the expansion will serve classic frozen yogurt along with new treats like chocolates and caramel apples and is part of a rebrand with future openings in downtown Olathe in spring and Shawnee in fall.  Johnson County Post

CRIME NEWS

  • Olathe police responded to a home on North Persimmon Drive just after 11 a.m. Wednesday to perform a welfare check and found the body of a 75-year-old woman—their investigation now treats her death as a homicide.  KMBC
  • Olathe Police Department is investigating a homicide after a 75-year-old woman was found dead in a house on the 400 block of North Persimmon Drive Wednesday morning — officers were dispatched at 11:05 a.m. to check on her welfare.  KSHB
  • Olathe Police are investigating the death of a 75-year-old Johnson County woman after officers responded at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday to a home on North Persimmon Drive — just west of Olathe West High School — where they found her dead.  KCTV 5

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The EPA approved the sale of E15 gasoline blend for the summer after several governors and state representatives urged the change to lower fuel prices and support local energy + Governor Kelly said it would ease fuel supply delays. The emergency waiver took effect on Thursday and will remain in effect until May 20, in line with a National Energy Emergency order.  KSNT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three high school seniors from Johnson County were named 2025 National Merit Scholars after receiving corporate-sponsored scholarships—Eston Thomas Garcia from Olathe Northwest, Aashritha Musti from Blue Valley West, and Benjamin H. Palmet from Pembroke Hill. More winners, including those for $2,500 and college-sponsored awards, will be announced later this month and over the summer.  Johnson County Post
