- ➤ Kansas City Action for Animals placed a billboard on Carter Avenue near I-35 urging the Shawnee Pet Stop to free Frankie (a capuchin monkey held in a 10-foot cage for nearly 20 years). - ➤ Johnson County Museum in Overland Park has received the 2026 Museum Impact Award from the American Alliance of Museums for its REDLINED initiative (Cities, Suburbs, and Segregation) that engaged over 40,000 visitors and more than 100 programs to drive local dialogue today. Johnson County

- ➤ Amber Hartsook, whose 18-year-old son Treyton died in a car accident six months ago, says Olathe Schools must read his name at graduation instead of only printing it. Nearly 4,000 community members have signed a petition + the board kept the existing policy. KSHB
- ➤ Olathe Public Schools submitted a voluntary resolution agreement on May 8 to address allegations from the U.S. Department of Education regarding Title IX and FERPA while firmly rejecting the claims. The district maintains its compliance with all laws and remains focused on academic excellence and community wellbeing. KMBC

- ➤ Aulya Daniels, a 15-year-old gymnast from Olathe, is training at Liberty Gymnastics after attending a national team camp last week; she is preparing for the Pan Am Games and a potential Olympic run.
