COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Residents of the condemned Aspen Place Apartments in Gardner received free legal advice Tuesday from Kansas Legal Services at the Hampton Inn—temporary shelter is now provided by the Salvation Army in Olathe to help families secure new housing. About 80 students from the Gardner Edgerton School District are getting support with transportation and other needs as their families adjust to the change. KMBC

- ➤ Char Bar Smoked Meats & Pickleball, the third Downtown Olathe restaurant announced in October, is now moving through the city planning process. It will be built at the northwest corner of Kansas Avenue and Santa Fe Street on the former Olathe Fire station site & will offer a southern-inspired menu with award-winning KC barbecue and one of the metro's largest outdoor beer gardens. - ➤ WingStand, a chicken wing restaurant, will open Saturday at 119 S. Mur-Len Road in Olathe as owner Joe Finch launches his first franchise after gaining experience at other locations — customers who order through the WingStand app on opening day will get free wings. Johnson County Post

- ➤ On May 13th, the Olathe Civic Theatre Association inducted 10 individuals—former board members, actors, and backstage workers—into its inaugural hall of fame class to honor their contributions. The ceremony highlighted the organization’s long-standing role in Olathe since its founding in 1974. Olathe Reporter
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Johnson County commissioners approved using reserve funds to order 10 new ambulances for 2026 and 2027—delivery times have increased to four years because of COVID supply chain delays and rising call volume. They also set aside extra money to cover a $250,000 increase in the Coffee Creek bridge replacement cost after federal budget cuts. Johnson County Post
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Johnson County has invested nearly $1.5 million to expand mental health services by planning a 24/7 crisis stabilization center with 26 beds and expanded support for the 988 hotline—three new call takers are added and text messaging will be accepted to help more people in crisis. The facility will begin welcoming patients within a few months as the county strengthens its crisis care programs. KSHB
