  • Five Olathe pools open on Memorial Day, May 25, including Lake Olathe, Black Bob Bay, Frontier, Mill Creek, and Oregon Trail. The Olathe One Pass offers community access to the pools, the community center + Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop through Labor Day.  Olathe Reporter

  • The Blue River, which begins at the confluence of Coffee and Wolf creeks near the Overland Park Arboretum, faces flood, erosion and pollution challenges from suburban development; Heartland Conservation Alliance reported a 47% health score and calls for policy reform + nature-based development to protect its watershed.  Johnson County Post

  • Kansas high schools will launch official girls flag football this fall after KSHSAA approved the sport on Apr. 23. Kate Mikuls advocated for the change in Topeka, and about 32 teams from (Johnson, Wyandotte, Sedgwick) counties are planning schedules that may include games before Friday night football.  KCTV 5
