COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Carolyn Long, a longtime KCTV5 anchor, will retire on Friday, May 31 after nearly 30 years at the station—she was a consistent presence at local charity events and fundraisers.  KCTV 5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On May 1, JCCC hosted its largest STEM Poster Symposium where over 500 students presented 330 projects and received expert feedback, showcasing their research in science, technology, engineering, and math. Four students won $1,000 scholarships and 14 received $500 awards—scholarship funds that will help pay for future classes.  Johnson County Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Olathe police are enforcing seat belt laws on local streets as part of the Click It or Ticket campaign—which is funded by the Kansas Department of Transportation—that began May 18 and will continue until June 1.  KMBC
  • An Olathe mother has filed a lawsuit against operators of adult websites after her 14-year-old son accessed online pornography using an old laptop—she alleges the sites failed to follow Kansas’ age verification law. The complaint, joined by the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, could set off further legal challenges if similar violations are found.  Johnson County Post
