- ➤ Residents from the condemned Aspen Place Apartments in Gardner lost their hotel vouchers on May 15, leaving John Bratton and Candice Walker to pay out of pocket for a room at the Sleep Inn in Olathe (20662 W 151st St). Hope Market has assisted 98 displaced families so far and is raising funds to cover first month’s rent, deposits, and utilities (via donations that exceeded $204,000). Johnson County Post
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Sarah Milgrim, a Johnson County native and Israeli Embassy staff member, was fatally shot along with her boyfriend outside a Jewish event in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday+ police have since identified a suspect from Chicago. Johnson County Post
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Olathe city council has allocated $150,000 from general obligation bonds to improve traffic safety near schools and in neighborhoods this year. The planned work will add new design features, pavement markings, signage, traffic control devices, parking lot modifications and access changes—helping to slow down traffic in busy areas. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The University of Kansas Hospital hearing aid project helped its 1,000th patient, 79-year-old Richard Thompson from Olathe, who had struggled with hearing loss for more than three decades—he now can join conversations after getting refurbished devices. The 10-year program relies on donated hearing aids to serve patients without insurance or the funds for new ones—addressing a need felt by thousands nationwide. KMBC
