- ➤ Local scouts placed 441 poppy wreaths at the National World War I Museum and Memorial on Monday to honor 441 Kansas Citians killed in World War I — the ceremony also marked 100 years since the memorial’s dedication. KSHB

- ➤ At Young's Pool in Overland Park, aquatic supervisor Joey Procell urges parents to enroll children in swim lessons as Memorial Day weekend opens the season following a near doubling of drowning calls last summer.
