  • Kate Guimbellot’s home in College Meadows has flood issues that began in 2017 because a stormwater system was built with faulty design, and the city says the original developer must fix it while she and neighbor Max Cook have filed tort claims to seek a lasting solution—studies have proposed expensive repairs that may not fully stop future flooding. Residents remain worried about further damage and how such fixes might lower property values.  Johnson County Post

  • Excellerate, the manufacturing division of Faith Technologies Incorporated, completed its large rooftop solar installation on a new facility in Olathe—featuring 4,320 panels that are set to generate over two megawatts of electricity.  Olathe Reporter

CRIME NEWS

  • A funeral service was held for Prairie Village native Sarah Milgrim, 26, who was killed last Wednesday in a suspected antisemitic shooting in Washington D.C.—loved ones vowed to carry on her legacy of kindness and peace.  FOX 4 Kansas City
  • A former Olathe officer, Conner Thompson, received two valor awards for his actions during the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Brandon Lynch (who had a history of schizophrenia) on Dec. 31, 2022, and now faces a federal lawsuit that alleges his use of force escalated the situation.  Johnson County Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four Kansas City-area students — including Adele Gibbens from Olathe Public Schools — are competing in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., where preliminary rounds started Tuesday and the final winner will be named Thursday night.  FOX 4 Kansas City
  • MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe announced on May 27 that Dr. Jon D. North, the MNU Foundation Executive Director, was named the school's 6th president — he will begin his role on July 1 and follows retiring President David Spittal.  KCTV 5
  • Parents in KC area and Johnson County say schools missed early signs of dyslexia and they are pushing for better support for their kids. Many families have paid for testing and tutoring—hoping that earlier help will ease reading struggles and boost success in school.  Johnson County Post
