- ➤ At Antioch Park’s Rose Garden, ten garden spheres by JCDS artists are on display until Nov 30 while Overland Park was named a top city to raise a family by WalletHub and Livability.com. Jon D. North will become MidAmerica Nazarene University’s next president on July 1 — and a bronze marker honoring American patriots was dedicated at Veterans Memorial Park on May 17. Johnson County Post
- ➤ Olathe launched the Olathe One Pass that gives residents unlimited visits to community pools, Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm, and The Beach at Lake Olathe this summer. The pass is available in an individual option for $165 or a family option for $260 (additional memberships are $15 each) from Memorial Day to Labor Day. FOX 4 Kansas City

- ➤ Daiso, the Japanese home goods store, will open its first outlet in Johnson County with a grand opening scheduled for Saturday and Sunday—located at 14673 W. 119th St in the Olathe Pointe shopping center. The new store replaces the former Party City space and is the first in the Kansas City metro, with another outlet planned for Shawnee later this summer. Johnson County Post

- ➤ Prairie Village native Sarah Milgrim was honored at her funeral service on Tuesday, May 27 at Congregation Beth Torah in Overland Park—she was shot outside the Capitol Jewish Museum in Washington and authorities said the alleged gunman Elias Rodriguez is in custody. Johnson County Post
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Olathe Public Schools will offer free mental health services for students and staff this summer via the H.E.L.P. Clinic — the program will provide individual and small-group counseling to help with bullying and suicidal thoughts — while registration is required as spots are limited. KCTV 5
- ➤ Ten Johnson County students were honored at a send-off event on Tuesday at Corporate Woods Founders Park where Rep. Sharice Davids and Armed Forces veterans encouraged them before they began training at U.S. service academies. Two students, Josh Little (Olathe East) and Sophia Marien-Brovont (Shawnee Mission East), said they are eager to follow family traditions in serving our country. Johnson County Post

- ➤ Crestone Senior Living in Olathe celebrated its first anniversary earlier this month with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, guest speakers and an open house. The facility—located at 21810 W 119th St.—offers independent, assisted and memory care units along with a pool, movie theater, fitness center and restaurant, and it is now at about 90% occupancy.
