COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Parks & Recreation Foundation of Johnson County will host the Meadowbrook Park Festival on Friday, June 6 at the park’s Great Lawn at 9101 Nall Ave in Prairie Village where local artists, food trucks, and musicians will entertain visitors. The free event will feature music from 7 to 9 p.m.—with performances by The Allied Saints, Jillian Riscoe, and Jim 'Mr. Stinky Feet' Cosgrove—and family activities while funds raised benefit the Public Art Program.  Johnson County Post

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Jack in the Box closed its Overland Park and Merriam stores on May 21—leaving Johnson County without any—and the company will close between 150 and 200 restaurants nationwide as it works to improve its financial performance.  Johnson County Post
  • Local business owners in De Soto are watching how changing tariff policies might drive up costs for battery production and building materials as new housing develops near the Panasonic Energy facility. Economists and realtors worry that rising tariffs on Chinese imports could make steel and wood more expensive—while Panasonic says its hiring plans remain on track.  KSHB

  • A 36-year-old inmate, Anthony Mansfield, escaped from the Johnson County Department of Corrections work release facility on Wednesday at 10 p.m. and is considered dangerous.  FOX 4 Kansas City

EDUCATION NEWS

  • JoCo school districts, including Olathe Public Schools and Shawnee Mission, are offering free summer meals to help kids who normally rely on school lunches. Local programs serve food onsite and provide extra help with basic needs—such as school supplies and social services—until classes resume.  Johnson County Post
