- ➤ This summer, Michaela Krueger and Luka Pivk will open Dolce Caffè in a former drive-in at 435 S. Parker St.—a site that once housed Tastee Freez. The shop will have a soft opening on July 1 followed by a grand opening on July 15 and will serve European-style coffee made with Austrian brand Julius Meinl and a limited selection of baked goods. - ➤ Cowley County Sheriff's Office found human remains during a search for missing 81-year-old Jerry McConnell from Overland Park on June 11 near 333rd Road after her vehicle was located May 20 on private property on 327th Road & deputies now await an autopsy to confirm her identity. KMBC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kansas State Senator Cindy Holscher announced she is running for governor, saying she will focus on protecting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid and lowering the cost of healthcare, housing and childcare. She will kick off her campaign with regional events in July—stressing a commitment to help working families. KSHB
- ➤ The Johnson County juvenile detention center at 915 W. Spruce St. in Olathe will start taking in out-of-county youths when it is not full to help recoup staffing costs by charging $150 per day—commissioners approved the plan with a 6—0 vote while officials noted that the center currently houses far fewer than its 40-bed capacity.
