- ➤ Overland Park unveiled a 10-foot heart-shaped World Cup countdown clock on Monday at Scheels Soccer Complex near 135th Street and Switzer Road, which showed days, hours and minutes until the tournament begins. Olathe officials are working with the Mid-America Regional Council and county government to plan larger events for the match while Shawnee will host an Americana and Ales celebration downtown on June 20, 2026 — efforts that aim to welcome international visitors. - ➤ Franklin Bluelake pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Johnson County District Court for the 2023 killing of Rhoda Morgan, 53, whose body was found in an Olathe hotel on Jan 29—hotel staff called police when she did not check out—and he will be sentenced at 9 a.m. on Aug 15 in Division 10. - ➤ About 40 protestors—stating the bill would cut Medicaid and SNAP—gathered outside Senator Jerry Moran’s office in Olathe yesterday morning to urge him to vote against the One Big Beautiful Bill. They argued that the proposed cuts would negatively affect Kansans and the country. Olathe Reporter
- ➤ Johnson County is developing a new transportation connection plan to build a major north-south corridor through Astra Enterprise Park and upgrade local two-lane roads to four lanes to serve the upcoming Panasonic Energy Electric Vehicle Battery Plant in De Soto. County officials are gathering resident feedback (open house meetings have been held and changes will come as development grows) to guide future infrastructure improvements in the area.
