On June 22, Lenexa officers shot and killed 25-year-old Jose Enrique Cartagena Chacon at Lenexa Crossing Apartments—two officers were placed on leave as the ACLU urged the department to release police footage while Olathe Police lead the ongoing investigation.

Olathe Public Schools discussed a proposal to close Westview Elementary School at a meeting Thursday at 5:45 p.m.—if approved, the school will close at the end of the 2025/2026 year and be repurposed for an alternative education program.
