- ➤ Johnson County Post will receive a $300,000 grant from the Google News Initiative to expand its trusted community coverage into areas including Olathe, De Soto, Gardner-Edgerton and Spring Hill. The first installment will arrive in the third quarter and will fund operational costs—supporting a new reporting role for Olathe and another full-time reporter in 2026. Johnson County Post
- ➤ Panasonic Energy Co., Ltd. opened its new cylindrical lithium-ion battery factory in De Soto yesterday and began mass production of 2,170 cells with a goal of 32 GWh each year. The 300-acre facility is expected to boost nationwide production and add 8,000 jobs while partnering with the University of Kansas for tech collaborations—Gov. - ➤ Spectrum officials said Monday that a 200% rise in attacks on its cable infrastructure—causing 148 outages in Missouri and impacting services for government and home users in the Kansas City area—is being treated as an act of domestic terrorism and led them to urge law enforcement and lawmakers to step up penalties while offering rewards for tips. - ➤ The Olathe Leadership Lowrider Bike Club returned home last week from the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C., where students built a custom bike and met with artisans—continuing a mentoring program that boasts a 100% graduation rate across its chapters. KSHB
