BUSINESS NEWS

  • Developers are preparing land at West Santa Fe Plaza Shopping Center for a proposed Chase Bank branch—council documents show that about six acres northeast of W. Santa Fe Street and Parker Street have been dedicated for upcoming commercial development.  Olathe Reporter

CRIME NEWS

  • Lenexa tax preparer Hophine Bwosinde pled guilty to fraud and false statements and was sentenced to three years in prison for filing false income tax returns that cost the IRS over $1.5 million — his fraudulent actions spanned from 2018 to 2022 as noted in federal court documents.  KCTV 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Olathe city council retroactively approved 95,000 dollars extra funding from the traffic signal excise tax to cover increased costs for installing a traffic signal and constructing a southbound right turn lane at Sunset Drive plus Ridgeview Road. The move addresses safety concerns from heavy traffic volumes.  Olathe Reporter
  • At its Tuesday meeting, the Olathe city council approved water main repairs and began work on a gravity sanitary sewer interceptor — the project will extend sewer service to areas along Old 56 Highway west of Robinson Drive that lack it.  Olathe Reporter

  • Two former Blue Valley Southwest pitchers will report this week to minor league facilities for the San Francisco Giants and Detroit Tigers, while a JoCo native from Blue Valley West will join the New York Yankees system.
