Santa stopped by Topeka to help SLI (a local non-profit) start its Christmas in July event for the Festival of Trees that supports programs for adults with disabilities.

The 48th event starts on November 25th at Fairlawn Plaza Mall (in Topeka).

The Olathe Salvation Army submitted a proposal to the Planning Commission on Monday to add four new family lodge units to its existing shelter that already houses 14 units—aiming to better serve local homeless families.

An immigration rights group said ICE made 11 or 12 arrests at two El Toro Loco restaurants in Kansas City, Kansas and Lenexa on Wednesday.

Legislator Manny Abarca called the raids discriminatory + ICE has not confirmed the details.

On July 30, 2025 at about 7 a.m., Dan Robinson of Adams Cable Equipment caught photos and video of a big cat near the southeast corner of 95th Street and Santa Fe Drive Trail in Lenexa.

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks later reviewed the images and said the animal is likely a bobcat—sightings of mountain lions are extremely rare.
