  • The Angel Clothing Foundation in Olathe is helping families by offering free clothes during a time of rising prices and busy back-to-school shopping — volunteer Shelley White said the service lights up local residents in need. The shop operates on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 420 S Kansas Ave and serves residents from several counties.  KSHB

CRIME NEWS

  • An Olathe officer sustained minor injuries Wednesday evening when part of a fleeing suspect’s silver Chrysler Town — Country minivan struck him during a pursuit after a reported theft at Target on W. 119th Street; the chase was stopped on Pflumm Road and I-35 for public safety.   Johnson County Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Olathe Public Schools announced it is changing its active shooter protocol before the 2025-26 school year by shifting from the ALICE system to a new approach that emphasizes lockdown and hiding & the district is reviewing plans to repurpose Westview Elementary School into an alternative education site starting in 2026, with community meetings planned for families.  KCTV 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Olathe City Council approved more than $450,000 in grant funding for community improvement projects aimed at fixing local housing and apartments—some funds will assist with rent and childcare needs. The council received 11 applications for the 2026 community development block grant.  Olathe Reporter
  • The Olathe city council approved a policy update Tuesday that removes a 2015 restrictive camera rule so police can view traffic cameras in real time—the change is intended to boost safety and improve responses in emergencies.  Olathe Reporter
  • The Olathe City Council approved public hearings on community improvement districts that could add a one percent sales tax for 22 years to the northern section of Olathe Station and a new retail spot at 175th Street and Lone Elm Road +officials will gather community input during the hearings+.  Olathe Reporter
