EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Thursday, students returned for the first full day of school at Bentwood Elementary, California Trail Middle School and Olathe East High School as cars, bikes and buses brought them to campus. Teachers welcomed students with personal greetings and creative activities—such as bubble displays at Bentwood—to start the year with energy.  Johnson County Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Johnson County Board of County Commissioners approved a conditional award of $2.38 million on Aug. 14 to Metro Lutheran Ministries so it can locate, purchase and rehab up to 16 rental units for the homeless population — the project targets chronically homeless individuals and will use Housing Choice Vouchers. The rental units will be ready for occupancy by late 2026 or early 2027 — a move expected to reduce unsheltered homelessness by 18%.  Johnson County

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kansas head men’s basketball coach Bill Self said today that his recovery from having two stents inserted in late July is going well—he added that he could coach a game or hold practice tomorrow and that he has improved his health since his earlier procedure in March when he missed tournaments.  KSNT
