Olathe hosted its final budget workshop on Tuesday, where city officials reviewed the 2026 budget focusing on parks, sales tax funds and tourism.
The proposed budget increases 1.7 percent—raising residents’ costs by about seven percent—with a public hearing on Sept. 2 and final adoption on Sept. 16.
One Olathe property is eligible for deer hunting with a bow and arrow in the upcoming season from the urban deer management program—this program allows property owners to help manage deer overpopulation.
Since 2023, just one property per year has used the program and six deer have been harvested.
The Olathe City Council approved a plan Tuesday for the Salvation Army to add four transitional housing units at its Santa Fe Street campus.
The group—aiming to provide shelter for homeless families—will use the new units to help people find temporary accommodation while they search for permanent housing.
