Compass, Olathe’s first alternative learning program for K-8 students needing extra social-emotional and behavioral support, opened at the former Westview Elementary School—24 staff work with small groups to help students build skills and return to their regular classes.

Shawnee Mission families faced bus delays during the first week of school as Zum Services struggled with a tight schedule running three routes, causing some students to arrive late.

The district said it is working with Zum to add routes + drivers and shorten turnaround times by week’s end.
