- ➤ Ace Pickleball Club, a new indoor pickleball venue, will open tomorrow at 1445 S. Mahaffie Circle in Olathe and is accepting memberships with a free first month for new players—offering 11 full-sized courts and a smaller practice area for all skill levels. - ➤ At a state budget meeting on August 26, legislators said Kansas schools owed millions due to a Medicaid miscalculation that spanned from FY2016 to FY2022. The KDHE explained a typo on a data request led to overpayments—forcing 218 districts to either have funds withheld from their June Medicaid payment or repay the difference over four quarters. KSNT

- ➤ The Johnson County Commission approved the 2026 budget on Thursday, and Olathe bills rose about eight percent because of a flat tax rate. The $1.9 billion plan uses a total mill levy of 24.125 mills—divided among the county, library and park services. Olathe Reporter
- ➤ Kansas House Speaker Daniel Hawkins criticized the DCF and Governor Kelly today for refusing to send SNAP recipient data to the USDA—data that includes names, birthdays, and income information. The USDA has given 30 days to comply or risk cutting $10.4 million in federal funding per quarter, which could hurt food help for families. KSNT

- ➤ Federal health officials announced that Kroger is recalling 18,000 bags of cooked peeled shrimp because they may have been contaminated with cesium-137, a radioactive material that can raise cancer risk. The shrimp were sold between July 24 and Aug. 11 and no illnesses have been reported—customers should return or discard the product. KSNT
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Data from the Federal Reserve shows that homeownership in Kansas declined from 69.5% in 2020 to 67.7% as of March due to rising home prices that made mortgage payments higher than many could afford. A Wichita State University center noted that even though wages increased above inflation, they did not keep pace with home values—making it tougher for locals to buy homes. KSNT
