COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Old Settlers Festival kicked off its 127th year yesterday in Olathe with a carnival featuring rides, food, live music — and one of Kansas’ largest parades. Festival leaders said events will continue through Saturday to honor local heritage and offer family-friendly activities.  KCTV 5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Johnson County runs a vast water system that treats drinking water and manages wastewater and stormwater for many cities. The system, which serves nearly half a million people, treats nearly 50 million gallons of wastewater each day—protecting natural streams and parks.  Johnson County Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Two Olathe homeowners said their basements flooded again this summer for the sixth time since 2017 due to flaws in a storm sewer system approved by city staff—blaming poor design and asking leaders to help hold the developer responsible. They voiced their concerns at Tuesday’s City Council meeting as they seek a fix for damage that threatens their retirement investment.  KMBC
  • The Olathe city government hired a national recruitment firm—Strategic Government Resources—to lead a search for its next city manager, city council member LeEtta Felter said. The council selected the firm in a recent executive session, and the cost of the search has not yet been released.  Olathe Reporter
