GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Eleven Chinook helicopters flew their final mission Sunday at New Century AirCenter as the Army Reserve unit ended over 40 years of service with a 45-minute flight over Kansas City. Families gathered to watch the farewell while a fire truck water salute & community memories honored the service members.  KMBC
  • Eleven CH-47 Chinook helicopters flew on Sunday from New Century AirCenter near Gardner in a final formation flight before the base was decommissioned under an Army Transformation Initiative — families and unit members gathered to say goodbye as the Army Reserve Aviation Command began inactivating its rotary-wing units and assets.  KSHB

SPORTS NEWS

  • Temwa Chawinga scored her 12th goal of the season as Kansas City Current beat Bay FC 2-0 on Saturday night in San Jose—marking the team's seventh straight shutout and moving her into a tie for the season lead.  KCTV 5
  • Lamar Hunt and H. Roe Bartle moved the Dallas Texans to Kansas City and built the team into the Chiefs. On Sept. 7, 1963, the brand-new team beat the Denver Broncos 59 to 7 in its first regular-season game, marking the start of a lasting franchise.  KCTV 5
