COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Post has welcomed Kate Mays as the new Olathe beat reporter—her arrival marks the paper’s move to expand coverage in all of Johnson County. Mays, a Lenexa native with experience at KCUR and a master’s in journalism, will focus on local government and community issues.  Johnson County Post
  • Olathe East student Brinley Hutson, who had her leg amputated above the knee, will compete at the Para Powerlifting Worlds in Cairo in October while Lancer Day festivities and Forbes naming of top JoCo employers—Garmin, Johnson County government and Olathe Public Schools—show local success.  Johnson County Post
  • City council approved plans to improve Mill Creek Pool by assessing safety, demolishing the old restroom and bathhouse, and adding a new splashpad. Construction will begin in 2026 and focus on user comfort, long-term resilience and cost-effective resource use—project updates will be provided as work advances.  Olathe Reporter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Olathe city government adopted a new roadway safety plan to cover priority areas for cars, bikes and pedestrians—funded by a $280,000 grant approved by the city council on Sept. 2.  Olathe Reporter
  • Roeland Park City Council unanimously approved a resolution urging the Secretary of State and Johnson County Election Office to offer Spanish-language ballots, sample ballots, and voting information at polling places and online for the upcoming 2025 election—making Roeland Park the first Johnson County city to support voting language access as noted by local officials and the ACLU.  Johnson County Post
