- ➤ KMBC 9 Chronicle will air the tribute special Ride for the Fallen on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 9 p.m.—honoring Fairway police officer Jonah Oswald, an athlete and self-taught pianist who died on Aug. 7 after a high-speed chase. His life of service and family dedication continues to inspire those who knew him. KMBC

- ➤ Shreejit Nair and Priyanka Pottath opened The Indian Belly at 1084 W. Santa Fe St. in Olathe in August to serve customizable Indian bowls and wraps with an open kitchen. They plan to add new menu specials based on customer feedback + aim to enhance their fast-casual experience. Johnson County Post
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, students at Olathe West High School honored those lost on 9/11 by doing exercises that mimicked first responders’ challenges—climbing 36 flights of stairs and completing runs, push-ups, squats, planks, and dummy drags. Each student chose a fallen responder to remember as they re-enacted these physical tasks. KSHB
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Johnson County Government is named the No. 5 best place to work in Kansas by Forbes Magazine based on a survey of more than 160,000 employees — who rated work culture, wages and career growth — making it the top government agency in the state. Johnson County
- ➤ Olathe is building a firing range complex to help police train. The project, costing $15,150,000, will be finished in August 2026 — it also includes plans for an indoor range. Olathe Reporter
- ➤ On Tuesday, KDOT and HNTB presented preliminary designs for the Lone Elm Interchange at a Lenexa City Council Committee meeting, noting that funding is not yet secured and residents have raised concerns about children crossing the highway to school. The project plan calls for a public open house in October and a vote on noise walls early next year — local residents remain divided on the impact to their community. Johnson County Post
- ➤ On Sept. 2, the Olathe City Council approved plans to issue industrial revenue bonds and a new sales tax incentive for the Olathe Station shopping center at 119th and Black Bob. Developer RH Johnson Company said the $17,770,500 will fund the acquisition and improvements—potentially adding retail or commercial spaces. Olathe Reporter
- ➤ Deputy Luke Gwartney rode 100 miles with fellow officers to honor fallen heroes, building on his Eagle Scout memorial for Master Deputy Brandon Collins who died when a drunk driver hit his patrol car. The Kansas Law Enforcement Ride for the Fallen premieres Thursday, Sept. 18 at 9 p.m. and will showcase his commitment to carrying the legacy of those who served before him—honoring duty and sacrifice.
