Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 12th of September.
Good morning, Olathe.
🏘️ Community
Oscar Mayer’s Wienermobile will visit two local events this weekend.
The van will be on display from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Johnson County Old Settlers event in downtown Olathe on Friday and from noon to 4 p.m. at the Wheels, Truck and Bike Show in Shawnee on Sunday.
🎓 Education
Parents from six schools plan to use the Old Settlers Celebration this weekend at Johnson County Square Park to speak out against planned school closures (seeking more transparency and clear school boundaries ahead of a Sept.
22 public hearing and an Oct. 1 board vote).
At Olathe West High School, a 9/11 survivor from the 61st floor of the South Tower recounted his story as students viewed a piece of World Trade Center steel — a reminder of the tragedy.
The display keeps the memory alive 25 years later.
Olathe Public Schools recommended relocating Black Bob Elementary's dual-language program to Arbor Creek due to enrollment drops and facility issues, which would extend daily commutes from about 8 to 24 minutes for some families.
Local parents rallied with a petition & community event Monday as they urged the board to explore alternative options.
