  • Massachusetts-based Baskin-Robbins celebrates the grand opening of its new Olathe store at 131 N Parker St. today—offering a prize wheel drawing for a year of free ice cream and $1.31 scoops from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. while marking its fifth Johnson County location and second in Olathe.  Johnson County Post

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Experts at the KU Biodiversity Institute and KDWP say up to 800 million birds will migrate over Kansas this fall as they follow the Central and Mississippi Flyways. BirdCast forecasts peak migration from mid-September to October—offering local birdwatchers a chance to see warblers, sparrows and rare shorebirds.  FOX 4 Kansas City

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Olathe city government renewed its annual contract with Olathe Public Schools on September 2 for renting school facilities for recreation—The city will pay $150,000 for the next year.  Olathe Reporter

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Kansas City Chiefs are set to face the Philadelphia Eagles in a Super Bowl LIX rematch on Sunday, Sept. 14 at Arrowhead Stadium (kickoff is scheduled for 3:25 p.m.) and head coach Andy Reid said second-year receiver Xavier Worthy—nursing a right shoulder injury—is unlikely to play despite practicing on Thursday and Friday.   • High school football is in full swing in Kansas and Missouri as teams compete in local and interstate matchups—Olathe teams are among those playing. Several games ended on Thursday while others will be played later this week.  KCTV 5
