COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Olathe parks department is planning to upgrade its 27 neighborhood parks in the coming years by installing new surfaces and inclusive playgrounds — a move that will improve local amenities. These changes aim to provide better play and recreation spaces for residents.  Olathe Reporter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Kansas Law Enforcement Ride for the Fallen will take place on Sept. 18 at 9 p.m.—as cyclists ride 100 miles from Leawood to Topeka wearing bracelets etched with names of fallen officers to honor their memory.  KMBC
  • Nottingham Creek residents oppose a proposed cold storage facility (seeking $670 million in bonds) because of concerns over increased truck traffic and chemical safety near 175th and Lone Elm. They plan to urge the Olathe City Council to renegotiate the project during a vote this week.  KSHB

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • On Wednesday, Sept 17, volunteer groups from Habitat for Humanity and the Kansas City Regional Association of REALTORS will build 14 affordable homes and a Homeownership Resource Center at Pathway at Heritage Park in Olathe from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. + The project aims to ease the county's affordable housing crisis.  KCTV 5

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, more than 2,000 people came to watch the George Brett 4v4 Volleyball Showdown at Shawnee Mission Beach Volleyball as Olympians and top players competed on the sand courts. The tournament was held to boost volleyball in Kansas and organizers said they plan to hold an even bigger event next year — a promising start for the sport.  Johnson County Post
