COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Kansas City animal activists sent a letter to a Shawnee pet store urging the release of Frankie, a capuchin monkey held captive for nearly two decades—alleging that store owner Greg Smith kept the animal in inhumane conditions due to a conflict of interest as he leads the Kansas Pet Animal Advisory Board. The group said it will increase public pressure, including a planned billboard, if the store does not move Frankie to an animal rehabilitation program. Johnson County Post

- ➤ On Tuesday, the Olathe City Council voted to reissue $73,100,000 in industrial revenue bonds to Amazon & transfer ownership of a 1.1 million square foot warehouse at the northwest corner of 175th Street and Hedge Lane. Olathe Reporter
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Olathe City Council voted 5—2 on Tuesday to approve Lineage Logistics' plan for a cold storage facility on 146 acres northeast of 175th Street and Lone Elm Road despite protests from nearby Nottington Creek residents. Lineage now can request tax incentives at a future meeting, and city staff said roadway improvements will be made before the facility begins construction in two years. Johnson County Post
- ➤ The city of Olathe will start building a one-mile, 10-foot wide trail connecting Beaver Shelter in Lake Olathe park with Cedar Niles Park this fall — the project will open in summer 2026 and does not require closures for construction. Olathe Reporter
